[post_content] => Back by popular demand, and bigger than before, Strasburg Spooktacular is a family-friendly journey aboard America’s oldest short line railroad, through Lancaster County’s harvest landscape, and destined for a Halloween celebration at our picturesque Groff’s Grove.

Our Spooktacular passengers will board a designated Coach car at our East Strasburg Station, and then our steam-powered Iron Horse will usher their carriage through farmland, pausing to hear the ghost of old LO&S #9, passing the graveyard at Carpenter’s Crossing, and finally stopping at Groff’s Grove.

At Groff’s Grove, guests may disembark and enjoy a harvest festival including trick-or-treating, games, pumpkin decorating, and themed arts and crafts. Snacks will be available for purchase at Groff’s Grove.

Our Spooktacular visitors will be able to board any later train for the return trip back East Strasburg, where our Fun Extras (Cranky Cars, Pint-sized Pufferbelly, Pump Car) will be operating until 4:00 PM. These activites are included in all Strasburg Spooktacular tickets.

Event trains depart for Groff’s Grove on the hour, with the first departure at 11:oo AM and the last departure at 3:00 PM from the East Strasburg Station. The latest return trip from Groff’s Grove departs at 6:30 PM to bring passengers back to the Station. Strasburg Rail Road’s Fun Extras operate from 11:45 AM to 4:00 PM at the Station.

This is a family-friendly event. Passengers are welcome to dress in family-friendly costumes.

This event will proceed rain or shine.

We’re from the northeast and work in corporate America. It seems like the world stops when we go to the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn. It’s family time, and a place to relax. We go to Kitchen Kettle and go to Kauffman’s to get cider. The chairs out front are a keeper. We just sit and watch the horses go by or the balloons go up.

Create Memories for a Lifetime

In the heart of our village, the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn in Lancaster, PA is built on land that has been in the Smucker family for generations – since 1925, when John E. Smucker bought the farm from his father-in-law. Today, we have 125 rooms and continue to improve on our resort-style country inn for the benefit of our Guests.

With indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts, an on-site fitness center and other recreational facilities, our Bird-in-Hand country inn is the perfect place for an active family or group. Think of us like a family resort in Lancaster. We offer unique experiences like Fireside S’mores and free ice cream socials with the Smucker family that help make for a memorable family vacation. You can pull up a lawn chair and watch horse-drawn Amish buggies go by or hot air balloons launch from the field across the road. Plus, our location puts us in the middle of everything you want to see and do in Amish Country. Our hotel in Lancaster County is next to our Restaurant and Smorgasbord, as well as our live theatre. We’re within easy walking distance of our Bakery & Cafe, a farmer’s market, antique shops and a mini-golf course.
