Make & Take: Sourdough Bread for Beginners

« All Events

Join us on Valentine’s Day if you love to bake!

In recent years, it seems everybody’s been talking about sourdough. Still, this delicious bread is a bit of a mystery to many. If you’re curious about sourdough, join us for this hour-long class. Amelia Detwiler of Willow House Goods will talk about how sourdough is different from other types of breads, and she’ll demonstrate the care and feeding of sourdough starter and discuss the basics of the first bake.

Each guest will go home with a Sourdough Starter Kit that includes everything they need to start baking immediately:

  • 1 jar of active, hydrated, ready-to use sourdough starter
  • A professional-grade class fermentation jar that they can use to hold and maintain their starter
  • A traditional wooden spurtle to stir deep into the jar for a perfect mix with less mess
  • A stylish breathable cotton bonnet for the jar
  • Professional instruction sheets, including step-by-step feeding guides and schedule, a beginner-friendly recipe, and trouble-shooting tips

Sourdough has prebiotics, or healthy gut bacteria. It also has less gluten and a lower glycemic index than some other breads.

Two sessions are available, starting at 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Walk-ins are welcome if space is available, but reservations are strongly recommended.

$65 per person includes instruction and Sourdough Starter Kit.

Date: Saturday, February 14
Times: 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
